It is a brand new profile line machine installed in a completely new production building with more than 1000m2. This new acquisition will allow Grupo Clavijo to increase its production capacity, particularly in fixed structures manufacture in more than 100 MW/year.

The Spanish Grupo Clavijo company has finished installing the fixed structures on France’s largest photovoltaic solar farm in Curbans in the Provence-Alps-C?te d’Azur region on more than 130 hectares of land (the equivalent of 130 football fields). The statistics of this farm show the magnitude of this project. Total installed power: 33 MW. Total investment: ? 80 million Energy supplied: 30,000 inhabitants The solar farm was assembled and installed over 15 months by a workforce of 80 people, 25 of whom occupied new positions created specifically for the project. The installation will provide CO2 emissions savings of up to 120,000 tons per year. Grupo Clavijo was founded in 1961. The firm’s main headquarters are in Viana (Navarre). It has three business divisions, one of which specialises in renewable energies, specifically the design, manufacture and assembly of fixed structure and single and dual axis solar trackers. All its products (like those used in Curbans) feature the most advanced technology. One example is the innovative, patented, azimuthal brake installed in many of its trackers. The firm is present all over the world, with more than 150 MW installed in Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Portugal, Bulgaria, Canada and the USA among other countries. It also has production plants in the United States, Canada, Mexico, as well as the factory in Navarre, which was recently extended by more than 1,000 m2 with a continuous profile line. Grupo Clavijo’s internationalization strategy involves expanding in the countries where it already has a foothold and entering new markets which are investing in photovoltaic solar power such as India and the countries of the Middle East and North Africa, among others.

This year, 2011, Grupo Clavijo is 50 years old. Founded in 1961 in Viana (Navarre), Spain, the company started up as a manufacturer of machinery for the industrial and agrifoodstuff sector. In line with their innovation philosophy and responding to market needs, spanish firm Grupo Clavijo has designed a new polar-axis solar tracker (one-axis), which it will present at Solar Power International 2011 in Dallas (USA), thus expanding its wide range of solar trackers (one- and two-axis) and fixed structures, which the company has been manufacturing, marketing and installing worldwide since 2005. This new tracker features a single axis which orients the panels by tracking the zenith movement of the sun. Its main features are: Flexibility in the positioning of the photovoltaic panels: maximum use of the available surface. Up to 840 m2 of panel surface per unit (may be increased to 970 m2). Robustness Quick and easy set up Tracking program via PLC astronomical calculations Direct connection with the anemometer with an option to include a monitor and test button to use the anemometer with several units (minimises the work and facilitates inspections). The configuration of the trackers can be modified globally (if the installation is monitored), individually via the buttons on the electrical cabinet, or via a mobile terminal. There is also the option of equipping the tracker with anemometers and data recorders, communications and solar farm monitoring. Grupo Clavijo offers additional services for the tracker: shade analysis, installation, start-up or preventive maintenance, to name a few. In short, it is a technologically advanced solution with an unbeatable investment/productivity ratio.

The Spanish firm GRUPO CLAVIJO has installed in the Italian town of Botontano (Italy), a new solar photovoltaic park of 2.6 Mw. on an area of ​​6 hectares. The Spanish firm GRUPO CLAVIJO –specialized on fixed structures and solar trackers-, has completed the fixed structures installation of the 11 Mw new photovoltaic solar farm in Trujillo (Cáceres, Spain). With 30 hectares of land (the equivalent of more than 30 football fields), and a total investment exceeding € 22 million, this installation will generate electric energy to supply more than 10,000 inhabitants. The installation will provide CO2 emissions savings up to 40.000 Tons. per year.

The study involved calculating the performance of three tracking systems, all of them from the GRUPO CLAVIJO range: the SC05 with a single axis, the SR04 with a double axis and the fixed structure, FSC model. For six months – from 21 December 2009 to 22 June 2010 – using the same type of panels, and under the same climate conditions, the performance of each of them was recorded systematically. The study concludes that the performance of the double-axis tracker is 35% higher than that of the fixed structure. Regarding the single-axis tracker, the performance is 19% higher. These practical studies reveal the importance of taking into account performance when assessing an investment in tracking systems, above all taking into consideration the amortization time.
